La Center Washington is a small town in southern Washington state. In the 1870s, La Center was a well-known business center, which is how the name came to be since it is so close to the Lewis River, helping in transportation and commerce up the river. With the advent of highways and railroads, La Center lost growth momentum and became more focused on serving the farming and agriculture in the area. The city was incorporated on August 27th, 1909. Its population was only 192 in 1940. The biggest economic boom is easily the new Ilani casino, which opened on April 24th, 2017, and is operated by the Cowlitz Indian tribe, which went through a very long legal battle with the tribe claiming the right to open a reservation on that location.
