Structural RotRot repair siding defects Clark County: As the owner of Preferred Exteriors I have  30 years experience inspecting and correcting structural rot repair coming from construction defects and faulty siding installation all around Clark County Washington.  Any home with “panel style 4×8 sheeting siding” has no moisture barrier under it protecting your studs and framing.  Almost all of this style of panel siding is made from Lp and been a serious problem since the mid 1990’s. Your siding is the only protection your home has from all our rain so it must be installed well to protect your building envelope. We service all areas in and around Clark County Washington including Vancouver to Kalama, Ridgefield, Battle Ground and Yacholt Washington. In the Camas area, often high wind forces rain behind your Lp or HardiPlank siding and can cause structural damage over time. What trickles in slowly becomes a costly problem later.  If rain is trickling in over time it will do substantial damage because it doesn’t evaporate quickly since it rains so often here in Clark County. See our rot gallery showing a few pictures of structural damage that has been replaced and fixed.

Lp siding is notorious in creating rot on the actual studs if it is t1-11 panel style Lp or sub wall if it is horizontal lap siding.  When not installed per Hardie’s Elite engineered criteria, Hardie Plank siding can also let rain trickle in and create the same rot problems especially around windows. In our gallery, you can tell some of the homes were originally done with Hardie Plank siding, but installed completely wrong.  We call these “hack jobs” in the industry and there are no shortage of them.

I have been an inspector for 3 decades and have seen it all.  If you feel rain is getting in, call Preferred Exteriors to see if we can help at (360) 687-4646.
